RECYCLING

People wearing Ragged clothing take the back alley, not the mainstream fashion road. Ragged people want to see a difference in the world and are open for innovative designs. After wearing your Ragged items, they can be handed in to us for free via RePack or dropped off at our conceptstore.

We will then recycle them by a mechanical recycling system.

Once the garments are received at our head office, we will bring it to the special department of sorting. First, we need to remove all hangtags and labels. These hangtags and labels are separately sorted and shipped to a different recycling process.

After this, the textile waste will be sorted by different types of parameters including:

- Chemical composition

- Structure (Knit / nonwoven / and in the future by fabric and yarn)

- Color, finish and coating

After it is sorted, the recycling process starts. During the mechanical recycling process, the textile fibres are being scrapped. This will be done by an unravelling fibremachine. The mechanical recycling process consists of grinding, washing, separating, drying,

re-granulating and compounding.

The recycle proces is most succesful when all the textiles, in the pulping batch of raw material, have the same structure. Hair and hemp have got the same structure, so these can easily be recycled succesfully.

If the regenerated fibers are still long enough (an average of >15 mm, low percentage of <10 mm) and there is no yarn or cloth debris in the material, then we will reuse the recycled fibres for the production of our yarns. If this is not the case, we will use it for our non-woven items.

Haberdashery

Circularity is an important factor for the brand Ragged. That’s why we pay a lot of attention to every part of the garments. The haberdashery is designed by our brand self and will be made out of PET plastic. When you bring the garments back after using it, the haberdashery will be separated from the garments and every material will be recycled. The haberdashery of PET plastic will be recycled by the company Inoniga.
